An IMF AFRITAC South mission worked closely with Statistics Mauritius and key national institutions to strengthen GDP estimates for the financial sector and Global Business Corporations (GBCs). The mission confirmed good progress, including the implementation of most prior recommendations, and highlighted the importance of systematically using granular data from the Bank of Mauritius (BoM) to improve the measurement, validation, and consistency of financial sector and Financial Intermediation Services Indirectly Measured (FISIM) estimates. Enhanced collaboration and data sharing with the BoM and the Financial Services Commission will be critical to further strengthening the quality of the statistics. Priority actions include improving FISIM estimates, incorporating GBC trading activities into GDP in line with System of National Accounts (SNA) guidance, reviewing classifications, and preparing for reporting changes under International Financial Reporting Standard 17 (IFRS 17). These efforts will support more comprehensive, timely, and accurate national accounts statistics.
